Obsolescence Statement
Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C Power Supply will remain in production until at least January 2035
Is a 5v 5A PSU Required for the Pi 5?
The Raspberry Pi 5 is more energy-efficient and cooler-running than its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 4, under similar loads. It does, however, draw more power (up to 12W) for extremely demanding tasks compared to the Raspberry Pi 4's 8W. The standard 5V, 3A USB-C power adapter for the Raspberry Pi 5 limits USB current to 600mA, which is lower than the Pi 4's 1.2A, but still adequate for most peripherals. A specialized 5V, 5A USB-C adapter is available, raising the USB current limit to 1.6A and providing extra power for high-demand USB devices and overclocking experiments. Users can manually adjust the current limit even with a 3A adapter, which works well for most configurations and loads.
